Rckay Rax

Rckay Rax (b. 1972) is a multi-disciplinary artist exploring themes of sexuality, politics, trans and post humanism. Best known for employing collage and cut-up techniques, he manipulates paper, digital media, the body and sound. Rckay’s own process of “ReBuild” aims toward a new functional composition, beyond aesthetics. He examines complexities of time, space, technology, futurism, identity and function, while acknowledging the simplicity of primitivism. His recent work is finger painted on the most basic of iPad sketchbook apps, assembled from random jabs and swipes at the screen. It recalls Victorian spirit photography and fantastical adventures in Scrying. Rckay’s influences include the visual style of Caravaggio, the "noir” lighting techniques of Val Lewton (Dir Cat People, 1942), and the fragmented narrative approach of William S. Burroughs. Rax has had solo exhibitions at The Residence Gallery in London.
