Renaud Jerez’s immersive installations, which are often site-specific, include sculptures, paintings, and mixed media works that address his interest in narratives inspired and promised by technology. Materials as assorted as high-density foam, computer animation, and cardboard render the aesthetic experience as a “dysfunctional interface.” His works fuse contemporary cultural and art historical imagery, embracing the ways in which technology enforces a wider dissemination of aesthetic discourse whilst transforming it. By considering digital contamination and consumption, Jerez’s work encourages his audience to understand the apparent shift in their visual experience and adopt this mutation.
Jerez has exhibited at Autocenter, Berlin, Shanghai chi K11 art museum, China, Le Magasin, Centre National d’art Contemporain, Grenoble, David Roberts Art Foundation, London, and Palais de Tokyo, Paris, among other venues. He received the Meru Art Science Award in 2014 and participated in a residency at Ecole national superieure des Beaux Arts between 2009 and 2011 in Paris. The artist was featured in the 2015 New Museum Triennial in New York.
