Rob Sherwood
As society becomes increasingly focused on the screen, Rob Sherwood’s work poses a critical eye on this obsession through his grid experiments and fixed resolutions. His work is about exploring perceptions both literally and metaphorically, employing high and low definition renderings. Although Sherwood works with paint, his pieces start as experiments carried out through digital screens such as the computer or video camera. This infatuation with the screen began when his job at an internet cafe exposed him to the world of communication and interaction through the internet. By observing people as they entered an online space he developed an interest in technology, questioning ways of looking, sharing, and communicating. His paintings go beyond what can be presented in 2D.
Sherwood’s paintings have been exhibited in several solo shows at the Federica Schiavo Gallery in Rome, Hannah Barry Gallery in London, Son Gallery in London, Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive in Spoleto, Italy, and ABZ Project Space in London. Additionally he has contributed to group shows at galleries such as the Palazzo de Sanctis in Castelbasso, Italy, Coldharbour London, Museum of Contemporary Art in Lissone, Italy, Chelsea Space in London, and Hannah Barry Gallery at the 53rd Venice Biennale.
