Roman Liška

Roman Liška's work engages with notions of space and the sculptural, playing with the texture and form of his materials, which range from traditional sculptural mediums like marble to commercial packaging, tie dye, and expanding foam. Even when his work isn't literally protruding off the wall or bleeding onto the floor, Liška's work explores its relationship to its spatial surroundings: even nearly flat arrangements appear sculptural rather than two-dimensional. In his work, he often compresses references to mainstream visual culture, news media, and advertising, creating a tension between synthetic and organic and between classical and commercial. Liška's work has been exhibited internationally, at venues including London’s Institute of Contemporary Art and in the sixth Prague Biennale.
