Sam Lewitt

Sam Lewitt’s work explores communication technologies and systems, adding weight and materiality to networks generally invisible or out of view. In the artist’s words, Lewitt’s work is an effort to “put constellations of graphic and plastic material into motion around subjects that resist representation.” Lewitt muddies the waters of smooth circuitry in order to make visible that which lubricates it.

Solo exhibitions include CCA Watts Institute for Contemporary Arts in San Francisco, Leopold-Hosch-Museum in Düren, Miguel Abreu Gallery in New York, and Galerie Buchholz in Cologne. His work has also been exhibited at the Whitney Biennial 2012, Clark Art Institute in Massachusetts, Pulitzer Foundation in St. Louis, Sculpture Center in New York, P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center in New York, and the Swiss Institute in New York. Lewis teaches at the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College in New York.
