Simone Fattal

Artist Simone Fattal was born in Damascus and grew up in Lebanon, and has since lived between Paris, Beirut, and northern California. Fleeing from war-torn Lebanon in 1980, Fatal’s work explores notions of history, politics, freedom, and feminism. Though ceramic is her primary medium, in 2013 Fattal released a film entitled Autoportrait, which has been screened world wide. Fattal is the founder and publisher of the Post-Apollo Press, a publishing house that supports innovative and experimental literary work.

Fattal’s work has been exhibited at the New Museum in New York, Sharjah Art Foundation in the United Arab Emirates, Cité des Arts in Paris, Bonnefanten Museum in The Netherlands, and the Beirut Art Center in Lebanon. Her film, Autoportrait, has been screened at MoMA PS1 in New York, the Vince Biennial in 2013, and the International Film Festival in Marseille, France.
