Sofia Quirno

Sofia Quirno’s pared-down paintings are refined without deferring to the geometric abstraction that characterizes the work of so many minimalist painters from the 20th century to today. Her compositions suggest organic, biological forms as well as abstract interiors, but can also be experienced purely as combinations of shapes, colors, and textures. Despite their simplicity, they have a captivating quality that rewards careful looking, enlivened by a sense of depth that only seems to grow with continued examination.

Quirno received her degree from the Instituto Universitario Nacional de Arte in Buenos Aires, in 2006. She has been a Robert Sterling Clark fellow at the Vermont Studio Arts Center (2012) as well as a resident at La Pan in Barcelona (2011) and Triangle Artists Workshop NY (2010). Her work has been exhibited both within the US and internationally. She lives and works in New York.
