Sophie Lvoff

Sophie T. Lvoff is an emerging photographer and curator known for her romantic large- and medium-format color photographs. Lvoff often refers to literature to describe her work: "I'm in agreement with Raymond Carver," the artist says. "Most of my stories, it seems to me, could take place anywhere." Nevertheless, she is most widely recognized for her photographs of neon-lighted honkey-tonks and the red twilights of post-Katrina New Orleans, where she lives and works as a member of the artist-run collective Good Children Gallery. Airplanes, rockets, choppers are also common themes in her photographs. She is drawn to the space race and aviation, she says, "for their transitory nature."

In 2010, Lvoff's work was included in reGeneration 2: Tomorrow's Photographers Today, a traveling exhibition and book organized by the Aperture Foundation showcasing emerging photographers.
