Susan Metrican
Susan Metrican’s paintings are whimsical and illusory. The surfaces of brick buildings, wooden shingles, and stone walls permeate the artist’s vernacular. “Through making paintings, I view space and objects as a flattened plane originating at the surface of the eye. I’m interested in images and objects that mimic that membrane or pay homage to it. This clear distinction between my waking visual perception and what is perceived as “on the other side”, provides me a spectator role in viewing illusory imagery as well, noting the presence of the separation between myself and images range from cartoons and patterns to color combinations like fluorescent brown and lavender on a glowing black background.”
Susan Metrican currently resides in Boston via Bangkok, Toronto and NYC. Metrican received an M.F.A. from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and her B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute. Metrican’s work has been included in exhibitions nationally, recently in Boston Does Boston VI at Proof Gallery in Boston. She curated Hung Jury at 225 Friend Street in Boston, and organized Press Play, an outdoor film program for the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
