Vickie Vainionpaa practice is based around duality. Her work is an ongoing investigation into the connections and gaps between natural and the man-made, the mundane and the sublime, and the artificial and the organic. In her paintings, she arrange these seemingly opposite ideas into one harmonious whole. Vickie Vainionpaa often pair organic, geological or cloud-like forms with linear, geometric and synthetic forms to blur the boundaries between dichotomies. There is a constant fluctuation between atmospheric and graphic, abstract and figurative, and artificial and natural. She also employ a range of digital tools alongside traditional and painterly materials to synthesize both machine and craft into the process of abstraction.
