Yuta Hayakawa

Born in Gifu Province, Japan, in 1984, Yuta Hawakaya received her MFA in sculpture from Musashino Art University, Tokyo, in 2010. In her 2016 series, body, played with the materiality of bronze, which, squished and fingerprinted, looked more like play-doh or silly putty. The series title was a joking reminder that, whatever pretensions we may have about our bodies, they're also just matter, among other things, and will eventually disintegrate just like any other material.

Hawakaya has had solo shows throughout Japan at galleries including Hagiwara Project, Tokyo; Art Center Ongoing, Tokyo; gallery αM, Tokyo. Hawakaya has also been in multile group shows across Japan at galleries including Maki Fine Arts, Tokyo and Plaza Gallery, Tokyo.
