Barbara Takenaga

Barbara Takenaga’s work is psychedelically abstract—densely filled with marks that culminate in an overall energetic flow. These vibrant marks, often circular in individual form and wavering in overall view, pop off their black background creating an essence of oscillation. Departing from or building toward the whole, her marks are seemingly caught in a freeze-frame of their own life and death cycle.

Takenaga has been widely exhibited including solo shows at New Works Space, McKinney Avenue Contemporary in Dallas, Texas, Gregory Lind Gallery in San Francisco, CA, McKenzie Fine Art in New York, NY and James Graham & Sons in New York NY, among others. She has been included in group exhibitions at Pace University Gallery in Pleasantville, NY, and George Billis Gallery, Pavel Zoubok, Jeffrey Coploff, International Print Center, and Red Dot, all in New York, NY in 2003 alone. Takenaga is also a professor at Williams College in Massachusetts.
