Carl Tandatnick

Carl Tandatnick is both an artist and a practicing physician. His two fields intertwine to create work that addresses issues of mortality and contemporary technology. Working in large scale, photosilkscreen-on-canvas paintings, he has produced images of the AIDS virus and red and white blood cells magnified thousands of times by an electron microscope. Tandatnick says of his work, "as art approaches the twenty first century, our interaction with science will shape and expand our visual horizons. As a world of new images is revealed, our responsibility as artists of the 21st century is to draw upon them and make them available to a wider audience through our art."

Tandatnick has shown extensively in museums and galleries in the United States and internationally. He has presented work at such prominent venues as the SONY Trinitron in Times' Square, New York, Pretoria Art Museum, South Africa, Museum d’art Contemporani de Barcelona and the San Diego Art Institute. Tandatnick’s work is included in the show Art AIDS America, at the Tacoma Art Museum in Washington, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, New York and ONE Archives Gallery & Museum.
