Gina Dawson

Gina Dawson has a diverse studio and sculptural practice which mostly involves incredibly laborious processes that often result in objects she is unsatisfied with. Like most artists this leads her to make even more objects. Says the artist of her work, “The objects and crafts I use are all personal and reflect on earlier notions of good taste, while their arrangements reflect an education that has corrected those apparent misconceptions. Watercolor paintings, hand-woven baskets, Halloween decorations, family heirlooms, rhinestones, stickers, smiling stress balls. My high school mascot, the bearcat, is represented by bear and cat shaped puzzles, but the sculpture is a prop piece so you know I went to art school. These sculptures explore the labor of being an artist, the desire to believe, and owning up to bad ideas.”

Dawson has had solo exhibitions in Paris and New York and Two Person Exhibitions in Boston and Baltimore as well as multiple group exhibitions in Texas, Boston, Baltimore, Quebec, and New York. Her solo exhibitions include Hall of Fame Gallery, New York, and Galerie Jeanroch Dard, Paris, France.
