Jennie Jieun Lee

Jennie Jieun Lee is a Brooklyn-based contemporary artist who makes expressive, richly textured ceramics covered in abstract paintings with hints of representational imagery. She creates an array of objects, including wheel-thrown, hand-altered vessels, masks and slip cast busts with morphing and multipart features that mimic, articulate, and navigate emotional and psychological spaces. The lively deformations prominent in these works dismiss the stale notion of a strict fine art/craft dichotomy, which has considered ceramics inferior in the past era. 

Lee’s work has been shown extensively throughout the world with solo and two person shows at Marlborough, Chelsea: View Room, New York, Martos Gallery New York, New York, Cooper Cole, Toronto, Galerie Lefebvre et fils, Paris, and Levy Delval, Brussels along with groups shows at Jonathan Viner, London, Brand New Gallery, Milan, The Pit, Los Angeles and Halsey McKay, New York. She is a 2016-2017 recipient of the Pollock Krasner Foundation grant and is a member of the Stanley Love Performance Group.
