Kate Groobey

Kate Groobey's large-scale figurative paintings have a distinctly childlike essense. With grand, gestural brushstrokes, Groobey depicts a variety of characters from a milkman, to a melon man, to an "I hate everything" man. Equally comical and grotesque, the artist's paintings are a contemporary take on Expressionism. In addition to the paintings, Groobey makes videos in which she costumes herself as her characters; wearing the paintings on her body and dancing around. 

Groobey receieved her BFA from the Ruskin School of Fine Art at Oxford University and her MFA in painting from the Royal College of Art in London. She has had solo exhibitions at Ever Gold in San Francisco, CA; Redling Fine Art in Los Angeles, CA; and David Lynch’s Club Silencio in Paris, FR. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at König Galerie in Berlin, DE; Transition Gallery in London, UK; La Sira in Paris, FR, and Villa Lena Foundation in London, UK; among others. Her work has been discussed in  i-D/vice, New York Arts Magazine, and Dapper Dan Magazine. The artist has also been included in the publications 100 Painters of Tomorrow (2014), and the Bloomberg New Contemporaries catalog (2011). She lives and works between London and Paris.
