Lori Cuisinier

The central theme of Lori Cuisinier’s paintings and drawings, as well as past photographs, is self-portraiture. Specifically, this theme has led her through interpretation and reinterpretation of "self," including her possessions and surroundings (real and imagined) as well as the inner world of her dreams. Her cinematic story lines combine memories and experiences of the distant and more recent past with those of the present day—the end-goal being, in part, the juxtaposing of strength, vulnerability, mystery and eroticism, often within an ambiguous female form or written words.

Her work has been shown in the United States and Europe including at Leonard Tourné, New York, McNeill Art Group at the Hill Street Gallery Southampton, NY, and Hunter/Fox Fine Photography, New York, among others. Her photographic images are featured in Academy Award-nominated director Mira Nair's 2006 film, The Namesake, in Adam Brooks’ 2008 film, Definitely, Maybe, and Mark Mann's 2013 film, generation Um.
