Matthew Morrocco
Matthew Morrocco is a photographer and multimedia artist living and working in New York City. He is most known for his photographic portraits of gay men in their homes. His work comments on the relationship between sexuality, family, and religion, and explores how the intersection of these entities develops a person's character and identity. He posits that identity is malleable, and that people engage differently based on the situation or company they are in, and are thus always performing. Morrocco discovers his subjects by searching through dating sites and social media platforms. He incorporates himself in his images, intimating a relationship between himself and his subjects, and evoking a feeling of awkwardness, loneliness, and confusion to reflect his own discomfort and suppression of desire.
