Mel Davis

Mel Davis explores the fundamental properties of the medium through works that range from monochromatic canvases to allover gestures featuring representational elements drawn from nature. The Berkeley-based artist’s style has undergone subtle shifts over time, incorporating techniques inspired by a range of art historical movements. Davis has remained dedicated to basic principles of space, color, and mark-making throughout her career, however, often testing the boundaries of these techniques by incorporating stark, solid fields of color that mischievously interact with comparatively fluid and gestural markings.
