Mersedé Mirshamsi

Mersedé Mirshamsi is a New York based photographic artist whose work explores a wide spectrum of the human condition within the context of the 'everydayness' of life. Mersedé was born in Tehran Iran and grew up in Europe and United States. From the very early age she was exposed to various different cultures, customs and ways of life from all over the world which naturally became the dominating theme behind her photographs. 


In the recent years Mersedé particularly focused in documenting the lives of indigenous societies that live outside of the modernity of the Western World. She aims at capturing the fleeting moments of their lives and the raw reactions to their surroundings. Mersedé has photographed the Oglala Lakota Sioux Nation, the Massai Mara of Kenya and the people of Phulping Kati of Nepal.  


Mersedé's work has been published in Musée Photography Magazine - No. 2, The Fear Issue, Revolution Art Magazine - Issue 35, Human Being and Everything Is Art magazine - Issue U


She has shown her work in a solo exhibit, Sentience at Greenpoint Gallery in Brooklyn, New York in 2012.
