Björn Meyer-Ebrecht

Björn Meyer-Ebrecht’s work references modernist art and architecture in sculpture and collage. His painted wood sculptures function as benches or platforms to be used by visitors to the gallery, blurring the line between art and furniture. Books appear frequently in his work, from repurposed book covers to actual books incorporated into sculptures and images cut from books about architecture and design.

Meyer-Ebrecht has exhibited nationally and internationally. In 2014, he was included in a two-person show at Storefront Ten Eyck in Brooklyn, and in the group exhibition Book Smart at Matteawan Gallery. His work was the subject of a solo show at Matteawan Gallery in 2013, and has been featured in group shows at Lesley Heller Workspace, Maxwell Davidson Gallery, and Pocket Utopia in New York; the New Jersey Visual Arts Center, Summit, NJ; and Galeria Casa Triangulo in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Meyer-Ebrecht received an MFA from Hunter College and studied Fine Art at Universität der Künste Berlin, Berlin, Germany. He was born in Hamburg, Germany and lives in New York City.
