About The Work

In a special box, the limited edition Ave Maria, l'image cachée is composed of 8 different serigraphies covered by a scratch-off ink.

Those panels - that we can't distinguish, under the silver ink - are complementary and when they are together, they re-create a class photography made in July 1942 at Ave Maria school in Paris, taken just before the Vel d'Hiv raid.

The owner of this artwork, where chance and fate are present as in all of Christian Boltanski's artwork, will be free to decide to discover all or part of this historical image. If the owner does decide to discover the photograph, it will be by scratching off the ink on the serigraphy - thus implicating the buyer in the making of the artwork.
