Devil's Noise, 2011

Sculpture

80 hardbound, handmade books

Dimensions variable

This work comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

  • This sculpture comprised of 80 hardbound books was made during the artist's 2011 residency at ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany and later exhibited there in the group exhibition, “The Global Contemporary Art Worlds After 1989” curated by Hans Belting and Peter Weibel. The work was most recently exhibited at the University of Illinois' Gallery 400, in the group exhibition "Traduttore, Traditore", curated by Karen Greenwalt and Kaja Rivera. The pages of each book are black paper that doesn't allow for marks to be made, and the gold text on the binding are poems that the artist has written based on the language riots in South Africa in 1976. The books can be arranged in diffrent formations and make up a new poem each time.
