    About The Work

For Nauman's 1988 video installation Learned Helpless in Rats (Rock and Roll Drummer), Nauman set up a Plexiglas maze with video monitors at each end, as well as a video projector on a crate showing onto the nearby wall. All played videos of a rat trying to escape the maze and a young boy playing the drums, occasionally switching to live feed from inside the maze in the empty maze in the installation. In this etching, Nauman details a study for the maze and how the various parts of the installation revolve around this center.
