Chloe York

Chloe York’s work is flat and linear and always begins with a human head and shoulders. She call's the process "decorating", which is in her word “metaphorical for the way clothing and makeup prepare her for social interaction.” The paintings are anthropomorphic portraits encrusted with oceanic and organic shapes and patterns, a nod to the decorator crab, which covers its body in bits of its surroundings for purposes of camouflage and self-preservation.

Chloe York earned her BFA from Memphis College of Art in 2012. She has displayed her work in over 100 group and solo exhibitions throughout the mid-South United States.
