Christopher Meerdo
Influenced by his counterculture skateboarding past Christopher Meerdo is drawn to making work which investigates the hidden, inaccessible, or illegal. Meerdo is interested in analysing large sums of data in order to reduce this information down to sculptural forms and installations. These fabrications and experimentations range from sculptural abstractions of MRI and SEM medical models to the exploration of technical devices and seeing apparatuses employed by law and militarized police force. Recently Meerdo has been working in collaboration with scientists in the cryonics field in order to inform his interest in immortality, transhumanism, and consciousness.
Meerdo’s work has been highlighted in solo exhibitions at The Mattress Factory Museum of Contemporary Art in Pittsburgh, Exgirlfriend in Berlin, Coco Hunday in Tampa, Florida, Document Gallery in Chicago, Silver Eye Center for Photography in Pittsburgh, The Hills in Chicago, ITP Space in Jackson Wyoming, and Document Gallery in Chicago. Additionally he has contributed to a number of group exhibitions at galleries including LVL3 in Chicago, National Gallery of Kosovo, Vivid Projects in Birmingham, NADA in Miami, Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, and DeVos Art Museum.
