Clare Grill
Clare Grill is a painter living and working in Queens, NY. Grill's early paintings were figurative, subject-based commentaries on memory. Over time she developed into the textured abstractions that defines her latest work. Painting primarily with oil on linen and working with a singular color-theme, Grill creates a contemplative depiction of energy through slight variations in hue and opacity. There is a depth and lightness in Grill's curved, amorphous shapes, and the lack of clear distinctions between forms incites a feeling of movement.
Grill has held solo exhibitions at numerous galleries including Freedman Gallery in Reading, Pennsylvania (2015); Zieher Smith & Horton in New York (2015); Diane Rosenstein Fine Art in Los Angeles (2014); Fred Giampietro Gallery in New Haven (2014); Soloway Gallery in Brooklyn (2014); Reserve Ames in Los Angeles (2013); as well as numerous group exhibitions across the United States. She has done residencies at Steep Rock Arts in Washington, CT and Vermont Studio Center, and has given Visiting Artist Lectures at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, Maryland Institute College of Art, and Albright College. In 2011 she was awarded the Pratt Alumni Award. Her work is in public collections at Santa Barbara …
