Clayton Brothers

Like an ongoing familial game of “exquisite corpse,” the paintings, mixed-media, assemblage, photography, video, and installations of brothers Rob and Christian Clayton are produced through a process of unspoken collaboration. Passing their pieces back and forth, the brothers’ intertwine styles, creating frenzied, highly dynamic work with various “spontaneously improvised” characters, narratives and references. As a result, the Clayton brothers’ projects are not only surreal, multi-faceted compositions, but also act as the visual documentation of shared artistic experience.

The Clayton Brothers have participated in a number of solo exhibitions including Pasadena Museum of California Art, Pasadena, CA, Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, Madison, WI, Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea, Malan and the Texas Contemporary Art Fair, Houston. Group exhibitions include Museum of the Moving Image, New York, Reflex Museum of Contemporary Art, Amsterdam, Ace Museum, Los Angeles, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, and the Santa Monica Museum of Art, Santa Monica, California.
