Pictures Generation

Untitled (Arena Brains), Robert Longo

Pictures Generation

In 1977, Douglas Crimp brought together five artists for a show called "Pictures" at Artists Space. The exhibition, named for the artists' love of appropriated images, was an instant hit, and it spawned a whole generation of artists. Nearly 30 years later, the Metropolitan Museum of Art looked back on the mass of work that these so-called Pictures artists produced in "The Pictures Generation." This collection features some of the work by artists whose work was exhibited in at the Met in the 2009 exhibition.
