Denis Savary

Swiss artist Denis Savary has a multifaceted practice, which includes drawing, sculpture, installation, video, and performance. His work ranges from single-channel observational videos, to anthropomorphic sculptures, and traditional drawings of nudes. For the sculpture, Maldoror, 2012, Savary created two large-scale coconut like figures, which drew from Max Ernst’s painting Eléphant Célèbes. This work is emblematic of his practice, which freely appropriates and references narratives from art history, literature, and science.

Savary’s work has been shown in group and solo shows internationally, including Swiss Cultural Centre, Paris, Musée d’Orsay, Paris, MAMCO, Geneva, Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, Geneva, Musée Rath, Geneva, and Swiss Institute, New York. He has received grants and awards from Fondation Vaudoise pour la Culture and Bourse de la Fondation Leenaards.
