About The Work
While visiting as a guest artist at the Royal Academy Schools in 2009, Derek Boshier was invited to produce a suite of black and white etchings titled In Profile, based on contemporary political issues and social events. In this suite of six etchings, Boshier features six characters: the celebrity, the fashion model, the corporate executive, a transsexual, a terrorist and the depressed urbanist. Most of these characters were directly inspired by media news coverage of specific events. Boshier has been drawing on media coverage as a source of inspiration since the early 1960s when he was part of the British Pop Art movement. The series was commissioned by Eileen Cooper RA, and was part of a project to bring established artists into the RA School to make prints for the collection.
