Dickie Landry
Born in Cecilia, Louisiana, Dickie Landry has performed his solo saxophone works in major venues in the USA, Canada, Europe, Russia, Cuba, Haiti, South America, India, Taiwan and Japan. Besides his solo work, Mr. Landry has performed and collaborated with other composers, musicians, artists, theatre directors and choreographers including, Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Talking Heads, Robert Plant, Robert Wilson, Keith Sonnier, Richard Serra, Chuck Close, Lawrence Weiner, Robert Rauschenberg, Gordon Matta-Clark, and Trisha Brown. His return to Lafayette, Louisiana has him performing with the All Star Legendary Swamp Pop group, Lil Band o’ Gold and the Creole Reggae group, True Man Posse.
Mr. Landry worked with theatre director Robert Wilson as music director/performer/composer on “1433” “The Grand Voyage,” a music theater work inspired by the story of Admiral Zheng. He that had its World Premiere at National Theater of Taiwan in Taipei and starred Chinese opera diva Mei-Yun Tang and U Theatre Director Chih-Chung Huang with costumes by Tim Yip. His “Mass for Pentecost Sunday,” a commission by Dominique De Menil for the opening of the Menil Collection in Houston, Texas premiered at the Rothko Chapel in 1986. A retrospective of his work was shown at the University Art Museum at Laramie, Wyoming and also at the Center for the Arts in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Landry’s paintings, videos, photographs and drawings have been shown in galleries and museums around the world, most notably, at Leo Castelli Gallery, Whitney Museum, LosAngeles County Museum, San Francisco Museum of Art and the Brazil Biennale.
