About The Work
Unique artworks from the important series: "Acts of Knowledge".
Each book from this series is composed of various cutout images taken from 19th-century encyclopedias and associated with drawings from the artist, mixing true scientific knowledge with fiction. All the drawings are pinned to a book, found in an antics store, with entomology needles.
Those books can be seen as criticisms of the fantasy of universal knowledge taught by 19th-century school and transmitted by dictionaries. On the contrary, Endress sees knowledge, and culture in general, as an agglomeration of various things we hear, read, and remember throughout our lives.
