Emanuel Torres

Emanuel Torres is a Puerto Rican artist based in San Juan. His work encompasses engraving, painting, performance, and music and is characterized by the use of bold, vibrant colors and abstracted visuals. Thematically, his work draws on literary and philosophical sources, as well as what he calls the “poetry of the everyday.”

He graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras with a BA in Theatre and Philosophy and then continued his studies in Video Art, Installation and Performance at the University of Puerto Rico, Cayey. He has participated in group and individual exhibitions across Puerto Rico, Japan, San Francisco and Florida.

A winner of the Pollack-Krasner Foundation Grant in 2018-2019, Torres went on to create his exhibition “Río en la Mano,” which was on display at the Museo de Arte y Diseño de Miramar (MADMi) from June 8th to August 10th 2019. Drawing on Torres’ experiences traveling through Europe as well as Francisco Matos Paoli’s poem “Soy un rio oscuro,” the exhibition featured free-flowing, rhythmic swaths of color with forms inspired by Taino, Maya, Aztec and Phoenicians cultures.
