Evan Nesbit

Evan Nesbit’s process of painting is quite literally backwards. Gobs of fantastically colored paint ooze through the woven fabric of the canvas, achieved by the artist’s inventive technique of applying profuse amount of material to the backside of the and coaxing it through to the front. In other works Nesbit enshrouds the work with an additional layer of textile, ranging from austere burlap to loose-knit wool, which simultaneously traps the paint beneath and draws it towards the surface. The fluorescent and varied pigments appeal to the eye, while the surprising materiality of the works arouse the tactile sensibilities of the viewer.
