George Stoll

Los Angeles based artist George Stoll creates installations that incorporate handcrafted objects, which resemble mass-produced items such as cups, toilet paper and sponges. Investigating the relationship between high art and consumerism, Stoll abstracts his objects, taking them beyond their everyday domestic function. His Tupperware series, which were first shown in a 1994 exhibition in Los Angeles, are hand cast in paraffin and beeswax and then are arranged by shape and color on a shelf. While the artist’s hand is still vaguely visible through his labor-intensive process, Stoll’s work challenges the nature of perfection.

Stoll has been exhibiting his objects and installations since 1994, including solo shows at Kim Light/Light Box in LA and Baldwin Gallery in Aspen. His work has also been exhibited in two museum shows at the Contemporary Art Center and the other at the Rose Art Museum.
