Guillermo Garcia Cruz

Guillermo García Cruz’s artworks explore different mediums and challenge the equilibrium between form and concept, in order to create visual experiments based on realistic and fictitious structures of exhibition spaces, galleries, and museums. His work examines the different interrelations of an art work with its environment. The contextual space becomes the underlying theme of this work, disputing the issue of validation within the current system of contemporary art.

Guillermo García Cruz is one of Uruguay’s youngest and most important artists. He has received several awards, including the Fefca 2019 scholarship. His artworks have been individually exhibited in Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Washington DC, New York, Madrid, and Tianjin. For 2019, Cruz is highlighted at a global level among 12 artists as a focus of the next generation for Arte Informado. García Cruz lives and works in Uruguay.
