Hugo Wilson

Hugo Wilson works across media, including in drawing, painting, installation, and sculpture. He is concerned with uniting the seemingly divergent realms of science and humanity by placing his art at the intersection of both these worlds. Starting from the philosophical concept of hauntology, which suggests that we are drawn to the aesthetics and ideas of the past, Wilson couples the primal mysteries of life with the logic of modern science to create a unique dynamic of “organized chaos” that blurs the boundaries between faith and reason. Through his work, particularly his drawings, Wilson demonstrates the physical exploration of the process of discovery.

Wilson received his MA from City and Guilds in London in 2008. In 2005, he received a BP Portrait Prize Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London. Wilson has exhibited works at the Modern Museum in Hungary, the Busan Metropolitan Art Museum in South Korea, and the Courtlauld Institute of Art in London, among other institutions. Wilson lives and works in London.
