    About The Work

Hung Liu portrays one of her common subjects: the Chinese prostitute. Sitting with an air of confrontation and superiority, the subject in this work draws the viewer's eye to her immediately, dressed in white, exemplifying spirits and death, and red, symbolizing good fortune.

The circles that appear throughout the painting are in a great number of Hung Liu's works, portraying both the termination of the painting--in Chinese, sentences are ended with open circles as periods--and the concept of infinity and eternal, interconnected existence.
