Jenine Marsh

Exploring forms of biological and visual metaphor, the work of Toronto-based artist Jenine Marsh is inspired by a series of visceral elements, including flowers, skin cells, petals, and tongues. Budding cellular life is the basis for her investigation into the intention of objects, and Marsh utilizes acetate, plastic sheeting, and acrylics to mimic the delicacy and translucency of skin, petals and tissue. Simultaneously morbid and enchanting, Marsh’s pieces, like her dead flower bouquets, dipped in rubber and dye, evokes the frailty of organic life, and the complexities of our relationship to decay.

Marsh’s work has been exhibited in numerous art venues including G Gallery, Toronto, ON, Ed Video, Guelph, ON, Truck Gallery, Calgary, Struts Gallery, Sackville, and Stride Gallery, Calgary. She has twice served as artist in residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts in 2009 and 2010, and other residencies include the Vermont Studio Centre in 2011, Alberta Foundation for the Arts' Alberta Future Leaders programme, 2011 and Struts Gallery, 2010. In 2014 she was awarded a Visual Art Grant from the Toronto Arts Council.
