Johanna Grawunder

Johanna Grawunder, originally from San Diego, CA., studied architecture at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, and completed her qualification with a final year in Florence. In the early 1980's, Memphis was making waves in the Design world, and its spirit and styled lured Grawunder to Milan, and in turn was given a job by Memphis founder, Ettore Sottsass. Indeed, she designs like an Italian, like the protogé of Sottsass that she is. Her intention is not to be aggressive or provocative, but as she says, "to produce work that is ironic and positive".
