Kelsey Shwetz

Kelsey Shwetz is a Canadian-born painter who lives and works in Brooklyn. She makes lush, figurative work that’s informed formally by elements of collage and classical painting techniques, and concerned with the female gaze, intimacy, registers of memory, and obsession. She has explored the intersection of plant and body matter through abstracted forms and is interested in the things we consume and bodily growths and transformations that consume us.

Shwetz's work has been exhibited in solo and group shows, including Christopher Stout Gallery, Brooklyn, NY, Burkhard Eikelmann Gallery, Dusseldorf, Germany, The Kinsey Institute, Bloomington, IN, and INDEXG, Toronto, Canada. She has held residencies at Eastside International, Los Angeles, CA, and Can Serrat Arts Centre, Barcelona, Spain.
