Kristen Schiele

Kristen Schiele's paintings and collages play with the relationship between nature and artifice. Her kaleidoscopic renditions of mountains, lakes, and forests aren't taken directly from nature, but are filtered through cultural imagination. These stylized landscapes are inspired by stage sets, movies, folklore, and craft traditions. Schiele layers prismatic oil paint over silkscreens of seventies movie stills to create hallucinatory dreamscapes. Schiele has had solo shows at Sloan Fine Art in New York City, the Soap Factory in Minneapolis, and Curators Without Borders Gallery in Berlin.
