    About The Work

Lesley Dill uses poetry as the starting point for most of her artworks, often incorporating it into extensions of the body such as hair and clothing. In this unique work she has photographed a woman’s nude body painted with the words of the artist’s favorite poem, Emily Dickinson’s #512 “The Soul Has Bandaged Moments.” The subject’s loin is voided and her upper body and arms are subsumed into darkness, further drawing attention to the handwritten words as if the body can’t help but confess its “bandaged moments.”
