    About The Work

Henriette is a deeply personal work of art, paying tribute to Louise Bourgeois’s sister, who was afflicted with a stiff leg. The pictured peg leg is therefore representative of Henriette, and the powerful composition of blue and pink is highly symbolic: in Bourgeois's visual language, blue represents peace, meditation, and escape, while pink stands for femininity and acceptance of self.
