Mandy Lyn Ford

Mandy Lyn works with her hands. Her paintings seem wrestled into submission, as though Ford put them into a choke hold and then hung them on the wall. Her work has the vibrant essence of 90’s Nickelodeon and the intensity of punk rock. Alluding to her generation and tastes, the titles of Ford’s work are light humorous and a direct reference to the pop culture she absorbs Hail Satan, 666, or Grody Jody, Cali Baby. Ford’s extreme impasto paintings are simultaneously creatures, game boys, and desserts. Tirelessly layered cakes, soaked, dyed, covered in glitter, cut and then bonded back together, they look as though they would melt if placed them in the sun.

Ford’s recent exhibitions include TSA LA, Los Angeles, CA, Somewhere in LA, LTAC, Los Angeles, CA, Momenta Gallery, Brooklyn, NY, Platform Gallery, Baltimore, MD, Vanity Projects, New York, NY & Miami, FL, Life on Mars Gallery, Brooklyn, NY & Novella Gallery, New York, NY.
