About The Work
Third Drawer Down in collaboration with Marilyn Minter and the Brooklyn Museum present the Pretty/Dirty collection. This large makeup bag has been adapted from Marilyn's Big Bang and while Marilyn admits to hating makeup, she does always wear lipstick saying "Well if you wear lipstick, you don't have to wear makeup, you look like you're wearing a ton of makeup!"
Marilyn Minter's sensual paintings, photographs, and videos vividly explore complex and contradictory emotions around beauty and the feminine body in American culture. She trains a critical eye on the power of desire, questioning the fashion industry's commercialization of sex and the body. Marilyn Minter: Pretty/Dirty is the first retrospective of her work.
