Matias Faldbakken

Known for his novels as well as his art, Matias Faldbakken explores antisocial behavior and vandalistic impulses with dark humor. Expanding on the themes of his popular trilogy Scandinavian Misanthropy (written under the pseudonym Abo Rasul), the artist has exhibited crushed shipping crates, graffitied walls, concrete sculptures cast from gasoline cans and flat-screen television boxes, and drawings in marker on large garbage bags. This photograph documents one of those installations by Faldbakken, who represented Norway in the 2005 Venice Biennial and has also been in the Whitney and Sydney biennials.
