    About The Work

This print from Matthew Day Jackson is an exploration of the cultural and metaphorical influence of Life magazine, continuing his interest in the dark relationships between time, innovation and war. Recreating the June 5, 1944 cover of the magazine, which featured a sea of marching soldiers with the caption “The US Infantry,” Jackson creates a tension between the layered print and the historical knowledge that the very next day would be the beginning of the end of World War II—D-day.
