About Matthew McCaslin

Matthew McClasin is an artist who works in a wide range of media, including film, photography, painting, installation art, and sculpture. Common materials used in his mixed media installations include light bulbs, fans, TV monitors, cables, and plugs. Much of his art addresses contemporary society’s reliance on technology. His work focuses on the overlap between found objects, machines, and nature, which draws a relationship between functionality versus aesthetics. He often includes images of natural objects that he frames in television monitors, combining elegance with roughness.

McCaslin has exhibited internationally since 1987, with one-person exhibitions in Stockholm, Cologne, London, Madrid, New York, and Paris. His work can be found in the permanent collections of Los Angeles MoCA, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, The Jewish Museum in New York, the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, the Sprengel Museum in Hannover, Germany, the Portland Art Museum, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art, Saint Etienne, France.
